Introduction –  Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Review

Whenever there’s a conversation about the most popular cashback cards in the country, two names stand out – ICICI Amazon Pay and Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card. An outright stark difference is the fact that one of them is lifetime free whereas the other charges ₹499 as joining & renewal fee. And in this credit card review we will be analysing the ₹499/year one i.e. Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card.

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card

It is a co-branded credit card launched by Axis Bank in collaboration with Flipkart, which translates to the fact that it would shine when it comes to cashback on shopping on Flipkart. Apart from that, there are a wide range of other benefits such as domestic airport lounge access, accelerated cashback and more.

What is Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card?

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card is a cashback centric co-branded credit card launched by Axis Bank and Flipkart. It offers up to 5% cashback for purchased made on Flipkart, Myntra and other partner websites. It also offers a 1.5% flat cashback on all other spends made using the card.

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Benefits

  • 5% cashback on Flipkart & 1.5% cashback on Myntra.
  • 4% cashback on Uber
  • 4% cashback on PVR Tickets
  • Fuel Surcharge waiver up to ₹400 per month. No cashback though.
  • 20% off on dining at partners under Axis Dining Delights program
  • 4 Domestic Airport Lounge Access – 1 Per Quarter at select airports.

Recently, the card benefits were devalued. Details of which can be found in this video by Bekifaayati – Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card MASSIVE Update || Axis Bank Credit Card DEVALUATION – YouTube

Analysis – The benefits being offered are reasonable enough for an entry level credit card. The 4% cashback on PVR though would not even cover the convenience fee that it incurs to book a PVR ticket online. The lounge access is good enough as 1 per quarter.

Welcome Benefits

  • ₹500 Flipkart Voucher on first transaction.
  • 15% cashback up to ₹500 on first transaction on Myntra.
  • 50% discount up to ₹100 on first Swiggy Order.

Analysis – I think the welcome benefits are best in the segment for an entry level card. It is almost as if the joining fee is being refunded to you in a way, making the card essentially free for the first year.

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Lounge Access

  • 4 Complimentary Domestic Airport Lounge access per year i.e. 1 per quarter on select airport lounges.

As already stated, it suits and fulfils one of the big reasons why the credit card users in India get a credit card in the first place. For the amount of annual fee, the lounge access itself delivers a good amount of value back.

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Eligibility

As per the Axis Bank Website – Eligibility & Documentation – Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card – Axis Bank

  • Primary cardholder should be between the age of 18 and 70 years
  • The individual should either be a Resident of India or a Non-Resident Indian

However, it is but obvious that at least a moderate credit score shall be required and if someone does not have a prior credit history then Income Proof such as salary slips or income tax returns shall be required.

Minimum Monthly Income Required – Upto ₹20,000

Documents Required for Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card

  • PAN card
  • Proof of Income – Salary Slips or Income Tax Returns
  • Address proof  – Aadhaar, Passport , Ration Card , Electricity bill
  • ID – Driving license , PAN card , Aadhaar card

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Charges & Fees

  • Joining fee – ₹500
  • Annual Fee – ₹500
  • Cash Advance Fee – ₹100
  • Annual Interest Rate (APR) – 52.86% per annum
  • Over limit penalty – 2.5% or Minimum ₹500

It is a known fact that the entry level cards are the worst usually when it comes to APR i.e. Annual Interest Rate. In fact, most times the entry level cards either have no annual fee or a low annual fee to appeal a customer base with low or moderate income, a customer base which is most prone to default or delayed repayments.

Verdict – I would suggest you to strictly avoid this card if you’re looking for your first credit card and if you identify your income to be on the lower side. There are plenty of other Lifetime Free or Low Annual Fee entry level cards in the market which adhere to the market standard in entry level cards when it comes to the Annual Interest Rate from 40%-42%.

Late Fee

Nil if Total Payment Due is less than Rs. 500
Rs. 500 if total payment due is between Rs. 501 – Rs. 5,000
Rs. 750 if total payment due is between Rs. 5,001 – Rs. 10,000
Rs. 1200 if total payment due is greater than Rs.10,000

Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Cashback

There is no reward points program for this card as it is pure cashback-oriented credit card. It fulfils a great deal of what is expected of a cashback credit card. It offers –

  • Flat 5% cashback on all purchases made on Flipkart*, 1.5% on Myntra and other partner websites.
  • 4% cashback on Uber & PVR.
  • 1.5% cashback on all other spends.

* For all flights & hotels booked through Flipkart the cashback is 1.5%.

Analysis – The cashbacks are quite generous, usually 1-2% reward points are normal across credit cards and when compared to that, flat cashback up to 5% stands strong.

ICICI Amazon vs Axis Flipkart

As demonstrated above this card compares slightly better than its rival Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card when it comes to the benefits –

  • Flipkart Axis Credit Card offers 5% cashback on flipkart to all users whereas Amazon Pay ICICI Credit Card offers 5% cashback to only Amazon Prime users and 3% to other users.
  • When it comes to lounge access, Amazon ICICI does not offer any lounge access whereas Flipkart Axis does.

Fees & Charges – The annual and joining fee is Nil on the Amazon ICICI but ₹499 + tax on Flipkart Axis. The interest rate on Amazon ICICI is 42% – 45.6% whereas on it is 52.86% on Flipkart Axis.

They both give each other a tough competition while both excel in certain areas, you should decide on which one do you want depending upon which parameter is more important for you.

Conclusion – Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card Review

The Flipkart Axis Bank Credit Card offers generous rewards for online shopping, especially on Flipkart and its partner websites. It also provides some benefits such as lounge access, dining discounts, and fuel surcharge waiver. However, it is not a lifetime free card which is usually is the case with most entry level credit cards. However, lifetime free card rarely offer lounge access.

The Annual Interest Rate or APR on this card (52.86%) is very high compared to other cards in the segment. Therefore, I believe, one should opt for this card only if they are a frequent and loyal shopper on Flipkart and can pay their bills on time to avoid the hefty charges. Otherwise, there are other cards that offer similar benefits or better value for money without the high interest rate. A suitable alternative as per our suggestion would be IDFC Millennia Credit Card.
